NELSON MANDELA BAY | FATALITIES IN DEADLY COLLISIONS IN KWA NOBUHLE, COTSWOLD, WALMER & KABEGA PARK



Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata is warning motorists to be responsible and take precautionary measures during the busy Easter weekend as maximum law enforcement will be monitoring the roads, the N2 freeway, beaches and hotspot areas,  ensuring that everyone enjoys a safe Easter as well as arriving alive at their intended destinations.

This weekend there were at least four reported cases of culpable homicides in Buffelsfontein, the N2 freeway and Kwanobuhle respectively.

In the first accident, a 28-year-old male died in an accident late on Friday evening, 31 March 2023. Police were alerted of the incident by the hospital after the victim had passed away during the early hours of Saturday morning, 1/04.

 It is further alleged that the victim was involved in an accident at the corners of 11th Avenue and Buffelsfontein Road, Walmer.  

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation and no other information is available at this stage.

In the second accident, it is alleged that on Sunday 02 April 2023 at approximately 00:05 the driver of a grey VW Polo was travelling on the N2 freeway Cotswold towards Stanford Road when he collided with the bridge and a 31-year-old man died on the scene.

Also on Saturday 01 April 2023 at approximately 23:20, at Sigila Street, Kwanobuhle, while SAPS Kwanobuhle members were patrolling, they noticed a group of community gathering around a blue VW Golf. Upon further investigation they found a person trapped under the vehicle.  

The necessary role players were called to assist and the body of a 30-year-old man was recovered.  No further information is available.

A fourth case of culpable homicide was reported on Saturday, 01 April 2023 at approximately 20:00. SAPS Kabega Park were alerted by the hospital of the death of an accident victim who had been brought in for treatment. 

It is alleged that the 31-year-old male was involved in a motor cycle accident on the N2 freeway near Blue Horizon Bay.  

No further information is available.

The names of all the deceased will be released once a formal identification is done.
