Butterworth - A 28-year-old pastor has appeared in the Butterworth Magistrate’s court in the Eastern Cape for the alleged rape of a 16-year old boy, Eastern Cape police said.
Police spokesperson Jackson Manatha said on Sunday it was alleged that the boy spent time with the pastor between April and December 2015 at Smuts Ngonyama informal settlement near Mchubakazi Township where he was being treated for severe headaches.
Manatha said the boy left the pastor during December last year to stay with relatives in Cape Town.
“The relatives noticed some signs that the boy was sexually abused, the relatives questioned the boy who then broke his silence that while he was at the pastor’s shack he was allegedly raped by the pastor,” Manatha said
The pastor appeared in court on Friday and has not yet been asked to plead.
The case was postponed until January 22 for further investigation.
The suspect remains in custody.
