Learning and teaching at a number of schools in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas ground to a halt again today as disgruntled parents kept their children out of school in protest. The closures took place despite efforts by the provincial government.
They have vowed to keep the schools closed until the Eastern Cape education department meet their demands. This includes the provision of sufficient teachers at schools, especially in specialist subjects and teachers for children with special needs.
Parents says the Department of Education has failed to deliver on its promises since 2010.
