Residents of Booysen Park in Port Elizabeth took to the streets in protest this morning, closing Stanford and Old Uitenhage Road and demanding to be addressed by mayor Danny Jordaan.
Police were on the scene early on Tuesday morning and all roads leading to Booysen Park are closed. Community members also clashed with protesters this morning, demanding the reopening of roads.
Yesterday six protests erupted in different parts of Ward 41, which comprises Missionvale, Booysen Park, Joe Slovo and Despatch. Two people were arrested for public violence and police used rubber bullets and stun grenades to disperse crowds.
The protests were fuelled by demands for an improvement in service delivery.
