The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Dora Nginza Hospital in Port Elizabeth has been placed on special leave.
Last week, staff members at the hospital embarked on a wildcat strike, calling for Ntombi Qangule to be fired.
The provincial health department has confirmed she’s is under investigation for alleged financial mismanagement.
An interim CEO has been hired while authorities investigate, the suspended CEO.
Provincial health spokesperson Siyanda Manana says a range of issues are being investigated.
“There are budget issues [at the hospital], the non-payment of workers and also issues of tender [irregularities].”
Qangule will remain on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
