The following successes were achieved during this weekend (15-17 April 2016) in the Mount Road policing cluster. Police deployed in the Northern areas performing duties on Operation Lockdown have also achieved significant arrests.

19 arrests for Possession of / Dealing in Drugs including dagga, tik, cocaine and mandrax ,possession of suspected stolen property, robbery and housebreaking, possession of a hi-jacked vehicle, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, attempted murder and armed robbery.
Confiscations:
1 Bullet proof vest
4 Firearms with ammunition
1 Toy gun
2 Swords
8 Mandrax
5 Knives
Tik pipes, cell phone, a laptop, chainsaw
63 Rolls of dagga as well as 2 bags of loose dagga
Substantial amount of cash
Various rounds of ammunition belonging to different firearms
Rocks of cocaine
On Sunday, 17 April 2016, the National and Provincial Road Traffic official, together with police officials, embarked on a massive clampdown on road traffic abusers. The team concentrated mainly in the Mount Road cluster policing area but also infiltrated New Brighton. Several arrests were made for drunken driving (52) and illegal possession of ammunition (1).
Apart from the successes achieved through Operation Lockdown, policing in other station precincts in the Mount Road Cluster also achieved a number of arrests. A total of 153 people were arrested for various crimes committed which included among others, house robbery, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected stolen property, drunken driving, possession of drugs, domestic violence, attempted murder and shoplifting .
All arrested persons are expected to appear in court soon.
The Cluster Commander for Mount Road Cluster, Maj Gen Dawie Rabie has reiterated that these special operations are intended to ensure safety on our roads and safety of our citizens in the Mount Road policing cluster. He added: “Crime will not simply disappear from our communities therefore it is important to work together with other law enforcement agencies to create conditions that will force the frontiers of crime to recede. Such successes, especially the confiscation of firearms and ammunition, are indicative that the SAPS is committed in reclaiming the communities from the hands of criminal elements”.
