PORT ELIZABETH - MAN USES MARTIAL ARTS TO SUBDUE CRIMINAL IN WALMER

A man who jumped into a yard in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, with a hammer could not have anticipated being met by someone trained in martial arts.

Police said the 18-year-old man was tackled after trespassing on Sunday morning.

“The owner’s son spotted the suspect, who lunged at him with a hammer and a firearm. A struggle ensued between the two but the suspect was overpowered by the karate enthusiast,” said Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

While on the ground, the trespasser produced a firearm but was disarmed and securely subdued until police arrived, the Walmer Neighbourhood watch said on Facebook.

Naidu said the firearm turned out to be a toy.

The man was arrested on charges of trespassing, pointing of a firearm and being in possession of a housebreaking implement.
