
Two people were arrested for unlawful possession of firearm and three firearms were confiscated by police. Two people were also arrested for drunken driving.
On Saturday, 5 November 2016 at about 09:05 police responded to a complaint in Chatty in Bethesldorp and when they arrived, the complainant handed over a 9mm Norinco pistol and 6 rounds.
The complainant alleged that the suspect pointed a firearm at him and the suspect was arrested by the community. The suspect is alleged to have been involved in a robbery which took place on Friday, 4 November 2016.
The suspect was handed over to police and detained on charges of pointing of a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as armed robbery. He is expected to appear in court on Monday, 7 November.
In another incident, on Saturday, 5 November 2016 , a 33 year old man was arrested by police in Anita Drive in Gelvandale for illegal possession of a firearm.
Police have vowed to clamp down on those who disregard the law and have urged the communities to report any suspicious criminal behaviour or activities in their areas.
