PORT ELIZABETH - MYSTERY SURROUNDS SEVERELY BEATEN GREENSHIELD'S PARK ELDERLY MAN

An 83-year-old man from Port Elizabeth is currently in hospital after he was allegedly assaulted in his house in Greenshields Park.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the victim is unable to speak at this time and therefore a 'Skeleton docket' was opened by Saps.

A Skeleton docket is when police open up a case on behalf of the victim, who is unable to do so for whatever reason.

The severely beaten man was found by his son on Thursday afternoon, before being rushed to hospital.

Janse van Rensburg says police processed the crime scene and opened a case of 'housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime unknown to the public prosecutor'.

This is a term used by SAPS if they believe there was no intent to commit a specific crime like robbery or theft, for example.

She says nothing was stolen from the house, nor was it ransacked.

Janse van Rensburg says they have also opened a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She says the investigation is still ongoing and charges could be changed or added.
