On Wednesday 04 March 2020 at approximately 10:50 as the members were driving in North Street, North End, they noticed four males walking in their direction.
The members noticed that the suspects were acting suspiciously and stopped. When they stopped near them, one suspect started to run.
The member chased after him and apprehended him. On searching the other males, a Taurus .38 special revolver was found on a 25-year-old. The serial number was filed off.
The suspect was arrested for prohibited possession of a firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate court during the week.
The Station Commander of Mount Road, Brig Marius Groenewald commended the members for being alert while performing their duties.
‘The area in which the males were walking, is a very busy business area and the recovery of the firearm resulted in a possible crime being prevented from taking place,’ added Brig Groenewald.
