According to police information, the 38-year-old man was standing at the gate of his premises in Kamesh Road, Rosedale, on Thursday, 12 March 2020 at about 16:10, when he noticed a white VW Polo approaching the four way crossing.
It is further alleged that the driver and his passenger suddenly pulled out firearms and fired several shots at the complainant.
Fortunately the 38-year-old man was not injured and a case of attempted murder was reported, after the suspects sped off in the vehicle.
A task team was immediately established and a 22-year-old male suspect was arrested at 23:50 on Thursday evening, 12 March 2020 in Rosedale and a second suspect, age 38, was arrested at 18:00 on Sunday, 15 March 2020, in Kamesh Road.
Both suspects will be appearing in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 16 March 2020 on a charge of attempted murder. No firearms were recovered as yet, but more charges might be added as investigations unfolds.
The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll condemned the shooting incident and said: "The South African Police Service will not tolerate these senseless acts, they will track, trace and follow up on all information to ensure that they bring the perpetrators to book”.
The SAPS wants to encourage the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the arrest of those involved in crime.
