UITENHAGE - SWIFT ACTION BY POLICE SEES 4 ARMED SUSPECTS CAUGHT IMMEDIATELY AFTER DURBAN STREET ROBBERY


Determination and commitment towards their vocation and excellent teamwork between Uitenhage K9 and SAPS members from Uitenhage and Kamesh paid off tonight, Sunday, 15 March 2020. Alert SAPS members acted swiftly after receiving a complaint of a business robbery in progress in Durban Street, Uitenhage at about 17:00.

Upon arrival at the scene, SAPS members noticed four suspects fleeing on foot from the scene. Members immediately gave chase and managed to apprehend all four suspects and recover two unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the process.

According to police information, four suspects, of which two were armed with firearms, entered the business, threatened the complainant and demanded cash. The suspects then took cash and cellphones and fled from the scene. No shots were fired at the scene and no one was injured during the robbery.

The four suspects, between the ages of 20 and 30, are due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on charges ranging from business robbery to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition soon.

The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended the SAPS members for their swift response which led to the arrest of the alleged suspects and the successful recovery of two firearms.
