Gomba said Uitenhage also had its first confirmed case — a 50-year-old woman who tested positive after going for a private test.
A nurse from Uitenhage, who works at Dora Nginza Hospital, has also tested positive for Covid-19.
She attended a funeral of a retired employee about two weeks ago, which was also attended by international visitors.
She is currently self isolating, according to Eastern Cape health MEC Sindiswa Gomba.
Gomba said all staff who may have come into contact with the nurse would also be tested.
