NELSON MANDELA BAY - MUNICIPALITY SLAMS THE FRAUDULENT ISSUING OF FAKE PERMITS TO INFORMAL TRADERS & SPAZA SHOPS
It has come to the Municipality’s attention that the COVID-19 permits that were issued to informal traders and Spaza shop owners during the lockdown have been reproduced and that the fake permits are being sold to businesses.
The Municipality would like to distance itself from the illegal sale of permits and wishes to emphasise that it issued these Informal Trading permits free of charge.
The Municipality would like to communicate the following to the public:
1. These permits were intended to allow for the movement of informal traders and Spaza shop owners during lockdown, for when they had to go and stock up or move from their homes to their trading areas.
2. These permits do not give anyone the right to transgress any Municipal By-laws (whether public heath, traffic, fire or human settlements related).
3. These permits are no longer needed, as the movement of people is now allowed in terms of Level 3 of Lockdown.
3. These permits are not for sale.
As per the NMBM informal trading policy, all informal traders need to have informal trading permits. The Municipality’s Informal Trading Office will embark on a registration drive, starting mid July 2020, in terms of which the office will provide informal traders with permits that will reflect the following details:
1 Name and surname of the trader
2. ID number/ or permit number for non-South Africans
3. ID photo of the trader
4. Exact trading location of the trader
5. List of goods permitted to sell
6. Permit unique number.
