A 37-year-old man was arrested by SAPS Mount Road members and detained on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It is alleged that on Saturday 18 July 2020 at approximately 09:20, police were on the lookout for a VW Polo vehicle after receiving information that a firearm may be inside the vehicle.
The vehicle was spotted on the corners of Harrower and Kempston Roads in Holland Park.
The vehicle was stopped and upon searching it, a firearm with six rounds of ammunition was found.
The suspect could not provide a license for the firearm and he was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ownership of the firearm is yet to be established.
The firearm is not reported stolen.
The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court on Monday 20 July 2020.
