UITENHAGE - VWSA INSISTS ALL COVID-19 PROTOCOLS IN PLACE AND ALL EMPLOYEES TO REPORT FOR DUTY FOLLOWING STRIKE

Volkswagen Group SA says production is set to resume on Monday after its Uitenhage plant was closed due to an unlawful strike.

It says employees embarked on unlawful and un-procedural strike action on Friday, resulting in the company having to close its plant.

VWSA says the contention by striking workers that they are exposed to the risk of Covid-19 infection at the workplace is without any substance.

The vehicle manufacturer says it has implemented safety protocols which, not only comply with, but exceed prescribed requirements.

This strike action impacted directly upon VWSA’s supply commitments to both its local and foreign customer base.

The company says all employees scheduled to work are required to report for duty on Monday, and to continue working as normal.
