PORT ELIZABETH - MYSTERY SURROUNDING OFF-DUTY POLICE OFFICER FOUND IN HIS VEHICLE WITH GUNSHOT TO THE HEAD

The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga has condemned the senseless killing of an off duty police officer last night, 29 August 2020, in Bethelsdorp.


It is alleged that at about approximately 23:15, SAPS Bethelsdorp responded to a complaint of a shooting in Wallflower Street in Ext 33. 

On arrival, the body of Sgt De Porres Leanard Frieslaar (37) was found seated inside his Suzuki Selerio vehicle with a bullet wound to his head.  

The member was working at SAPS Kabega Park but was off duty at the time.

The motive for the shooting is yet to be established and suspects are unknown at this stage. The murder is being investigated by the Hawks.

Lt Gen Ntshinga has expressed her sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the slain Sergeant and has called on the communities to work with police in identifying the perpetrators.

 “The senseless attack of our police officers is an attack on the State and I appeal to the communities to expose the perpetrators.  I also urge our police officials to be vigilant at all times whether on or off duty”, she said.

Police are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to send crime tip-offs on the MySAPSApp or to contact the SAPS Crime Stop number ‪086 00 10111.
