EASTERN CAPE - RAPIST GETS LIFE SENTENCE FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN WHILE SHE WAS ASLEEP WITH 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER

The life sentence handed to the rape accused, Siyakudumisa Adonis, 27, on 19 October 2020 by the Qumbu Regional Court has been welcomed by the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.

It is alleged that on 10 October 2019, the 27-year-old victim was sleeping with her 6-year-old daughter at her home at Macingweni locality, Ngqayi A: A, Katkop.

The accused broke into the house and raped the victim and proceeded to the child’s bedroom where the victim fought with all she had to save her child from being raped by the suspect. The commotion and the woman’s screaming were heard by the community members who came to their rescue. The suspect fled the scene.

A case of rape was registered and assigned to the Mount Fletcher FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit) and the suspect was arrested on 19 October 2019.

Bail was opposed and the suspect was remanded in custody until the finalization of the case.

“We are pleased by the lengthy sentences meted to rape suspects. These sentences are the results of excellent investigation by our Detectives and NPA and the bravery of the victims at court. The sentences cannot take away the trauma and scars from the rape survivors however the sentences bring solace knowing that the suspects who violated them will never do that to any other person,” said Lt Gen Ntshinga.
