UITENHAGE - LATE NIGHT HIGH SPEED CHASE SEES KWANOBUHLE HIJACKERS CAUGHT IN DURBAN STREET

Concerted efforts to effectively address trio crimes in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro paid off last night, 18 December 2020, when alert members from SAPS Kwanobuhle successfully apprehended three alleged hijackers after a high speed chase.

It is alleged that at about 23:45, the complainant was driving in Nyanda Street, Kwanobuhle when two unknown males flagged him down and ordered him to stop.

The suspects then threatened the complainant with a broken beer bottle and took possession of his VW Polo.

The complainant immediately alerted the local police of the incident and the vehicle was circulated. Members on patrol in Kwanobuhle spotted the VW Polo driving in Matanzima Road and a chase ensued.

They managed to stop the vehicle in Durban Street, Uitenhage and three suspects aged between 25 and 45 years old were apprehended on the scene.

The suspects are due to appear in the Kwanobuhle Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 December 2020 on a charge of hijacking.

Mount Road Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso commended the police officers for their quick response and apprehension of the suspects.
