EASTERN CAPE - 24 YEAR OLD COFFEE BAY MAN ARRESTED FOR ABDUCTING AND RAPING TEEN, 13

A good collaboration between Mthatha POPS and Mqanduli Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) led to the arrest of a 24 year old male suspect from Coffee Bay today, 06 January 2020.

It is alleged that the suspect forcefully took a 13 year old minor and raped her on 12 December 2020 until the next day. A case was reported at Mqanduli Police Station and investigation ensued.

The suspect managed to keep away from police radar while evading any form of lawful police custody since 13 December 2020 until his arrest today near PRD Building in Mthatha on his way to East London.

The suspect was arrested and charged for rape on Wednesday, 06 January 2021 and is expected to appear at Mqanduli Magistrate Court tomorrow, 07 January 2021.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the Investigation Officer, Warrant Officer Zwelithini Gentsana attached to Mqanduli FCS Unit for the arrest, “Each arrest is a testimony of our member’s hard work in the fight against the scourge of gender based violence and rape”.
