Four men were burned beyond recognition when their car caught alight on Thursday night.
Two vehicles collided on the N2 between Butterworth and East London.
Eastern Cape Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose says there were four occupants in a car and five in a bakkie.
It's believed some of the occupants were brothers.
Both vehicles caught alight on impact and the people in the car were trapped inside.
The other five men were rushed to hospital with severe injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
