Healthcare workers celebrated the least traumatic New Year's Eve in recent history, and they're thanking South Africans for their cooperation.
Although emergency wards were busy with COVID-19 admissions, there was a drastic decrease in trauma cases at public hospitals.
Healthcare workers say this is all thanks to the alcohol ban and the 9pm curfew.
Not a single trauma case came in at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.
Emergency wards were also empty in the Khayelitsha and Paarl hospitals.
Approximately 400 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised daily in the Western Cape.
Meanwhile, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital says not a single trauma case came through its doors on New Year's Eve.
That's a first-ever for the massive and usually busy Soweto hospital.
