PORT ELIZABETH - TEEN ARRESTED FOR RAPE OF GIRL, 12, WHO WAS DRAGGED INTO BUSHES AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY 2 MALES

Nelson Mandela Bay District Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit with the assistance of SAPS Bethelsdorp arrested a juvenile on allegations of rape.

It is alleged that on Saturday 09 January 2021 at approximately 14:00, a 12-year-old girl was swimming in a local dam in Booysen Park with friends. 

When she got out of the water to change, she was approached by two males who forced her into the bushes and then raped her.  

The victim’s friends informed her mother and a case of rape was opened at Bethelsdorp police station. 

On Monday 18 January 2021, the investigator followed up on information which led to the arrest of a 16-year-old teenager at his house in the Qunu area in Bethelsdorp. 

One suspect is still at large but the investigation is ongoing. 

The 16-year-old teenager is expected to appear at Nerina House juvenile court in Port Elizabeth today facing a charge of rape. 

Violence against women and children are a priority for the South African Police Service, therefore every effort must be made to arrest the perpetrator/s and bring them before a court of law said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga.
