Police swift reaction led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man for armed robbery and recovery of a stolen handbag in Uitenhage on Saturday night.
On Saturday, 08 February 2020 around 23:35, a Uitenhage SAPS K9 vehicle was patrolling in Caledon Street, Uitenhage when members noticed a group of people flagging down their vehicle. A driver stopped and a frantic crowd informed them that a man had just snatched a handbag from a woman and ran towards Daly Street, Uitenhage.
Members on receiving suspect’ description proceeded towards the direction that was provided. Members while driving in Daly Street, spotted a man who was running and on seeing a police vehicle, he scaled a boundary wall of a certain house. Both members disembarked from a vehicle and gave chase. A suspect was arrested hiding in between a dense vegetation and police also recovered a handbag in his possession.
A victim later identified a handbag and some of the items that were inside as her belongings. A 21-year-old man is due to appear in Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Monday, 10 February 2020) on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
